Many of you visiting this website are doing so because you have suffered a loss of some type and are seeking legal counsel to help guide you through the legal process. I have represented people who have suffered almost every kind of loss imaginable. I have represented families who have lost loved ones and have represented individuals who have suffered terrible life changing injuries such as quadriplegia, paraplegia, traumatic brain injury and the loss of limbs.

Although I believe that lawyers like myself and the attorneys in my firm can help you and your family work through the factual and legal circumstances that surround these types of tragedies, no one on earth can assure you, comfort you, and bring you peace like Christ our Savior. I encourage you, if you are one of these people who has suffered such a loss, to seek Christ with all of your heart, mind, and spirit. Although I do not force my religious beliefs on anyone (especially my clients), I do feel strongly about the presence and power of the Lord and how he and only he can rebuild broken bodies and minds. All good things come from Christ and he brings hope and joy to even the most devastating circumstances.

Christ is the only one who can truly help you rebuild a broken life. If my client is a Christian or is seeking to become a Christian, I enjoy speaking with my clients about spiritual matters such as these. Although I consider myself a Christian Lawyer and I personally look to Christ to guide me in my life and how I interact with and treat others, I will not impress these beliefs on you unless you want to include these types of matters in our relationship.

I have included some of my favorite bible verses in the areas of Faith, Hope, Healing, Encouragement, Peace, Glory in Suffering, and Worry. These verses speak to issues that often come up in my legal practice and I wanted to share them with you.

Glory in Suffering

Remember that your suffering is bringing you closer to God. Suffering causes you to look to the Lord and receive the Holy Spirit. The Lord is hope and peace and your only refuge during difficult times. Put your faith in Him and remain steadfast in that faith and He will lead you through the darkness.

Romans 5:1-5

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 8:16-18 (NIV)

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. 18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Romans 8:26-30 (NIV)

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

2 Corinthians 1:3-7 (NIV)

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

I Peter 5:6-11 (NASB)

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you at the proper time casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.

II Corinthians 12:7-10 (NASB)

Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me – to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this, I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And he had said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” “Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.”

FTNT: When we are strong in abilities or resources, we are tempted to do God’s work on our own, and that can lead to pride. When we are weak, allowing God to fill us with his power, then we are stronger than we could ever be on our own. God does not intend for us to seek to be weak, passive, or ineffective – – life provides enough hindrances and setbacks without us creating them. When those obstacles come, we must depend on God. Only his power will make us effective for him and will help us do work that has lasting value.

John 9:1-3 (NASB)

As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

FTNT: A common belief in Jewish culture was that calamity or suffering was a result of some great sin. Christ used this man’s suffering to teach about faith and to glorify God. We live in a fallen world where good behavior is not always rewarded and bad behavior is not always punished. Therefore, innocent people sometimes suffer. If God took suffering away whenever we asked, we would follow him for comfort and convenience, not out of love and devotion. Regardless of the reasons for our suffering, Jesus has the power to help us deal with it. When we suffer from a disease, tragedy, or disability, try not to ask, “why did this happen to me? or “what did I do wrong?” Instead, ask God to give you strength for the trial and a clear perspective on what is happening.

Philippians 1:29 (NASB)

For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for his sake.

FTNT: The benefits of suffering include the following:

  1. takes our eyes off of earthly comforts;
  2. it weeds out superficial believers;
  3. it strengthens the Faith of those who endure;
  4. it serves as an example to others who may follow us. Don’t resent suffering, but rather use it to build character and do not let it tear you down. When we suffer, if we faithfully represent Christ, our message and example affect us and others for good.

Hebrews 5:7-9 (NASB)

7In the days of His flesh,]He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. 9 And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation.

Worry

Luke 12:22-34 (NIV)

22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Luke 8:43-48

When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” 47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. Luke 18:35-43

Acts 5:16

16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.

James 5:13-16

13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

1 Peter 2:24

24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

2 Thessalonians 1:5-10

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Peace

It is impossible to have true peace unless you are in a relationship with Jesus. Peace is the presence of Christ. Pursue him and get peace.

1 John 4:16-18
