Mr. Belt received his B.S. in Business and Administration from the University of Alabama in 1990 and his Juris Doctorate from the University Of Alabama School Of Law in 1994. While at the University of Alabama School of Law, Mr. Belt was awarded the American College of Trial Lawyers Award for being the most promising trial lawyer. He was also awarded the Hugo Black Scholar Award and the George Peach Taylor Award for excellence in trial advocacy. Mr. Belt was a member of three national trial teams.
Despite being born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Mr. Belt started his legal career in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the Branch Law Firm. The Branch Law Firm has a national practice and reputation for helping injured and aggrieved consumers throughout the country. While with the firm, Mr. Belt worked primarily on environmental and mass tort litigation.
He next took a job with Pittman, Hooks, Dutton & Hollis in Birmingham, Alabama where he remained for five years. After becoming a partner with that firm, Mr. Belt departed in 2002 and started his own firm. Mr. Belt has been practicing with Belt & Bruner, P.C. since 2005. His practice is focused in the areas of insurance bad faith, wrongful death, personal injury, alcohol server liability, commercial disputes, medical malpractice, fraud, environmental contamination, and products liability.
Mr. Belt is a past president of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Head Injury Foundation, which is an Alabama non-profit corporation that helps coordinate services and benefits for people with head injuries throughout the state of Alabama. He has served on this Board in different capacities for 17 years. Mr. Belt is also a member of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation that raises and disburses money to various charities around the state. He is also a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club that raises money for the Crippled Children’s Organization.
Mr. Belt is happily married with four children. His family attends Church of the Highlands in Birmingham.
