Request a Copy Online

The Alabama Department of Public Safety can provide a Traffic Accident Report directly through the ALEA website. The following steps will help explain how to request your Alabama accident report online.

It is important to note that it can take at least ten business days after the accident for the crash report to be made available online.

1. Enter Your Personal Information and Reason for the Request

To begin, visit the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s accident report page. You must tap the “I am not a robot” box followed by the “Next” button.

On the next screen, you will need to enter your personal information. It will ask why you are an authorized purchaser of the report. If you were a party involved in a motor vehicle accident, you should click the first option: “An individual involved in the crash, i.e., driver, passenger, pedestrian, etc.”

2. Crash Report Search

After clicking the “Next” button, there will be a screen below where you will choose the method in which you would like to search for the accident report. You can search by crash report number, driver’s license number, or name. Click one of those three options and enter the required information.

3. Select and Purchase the Report

Once you have selected the crash report you want to obtain, tap the “Next” button, which brings you to your payment options. Your accident report can be paid by credit or debit card. The report will cost $17.00, including any credit card fees.

Purchase a Copy in Person

You may also receive your report through the mail by sending a completed Crash Report Request Form and a money order or certified check written out to the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

You will print this document and send it and your payment to this address:

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency

P.O. Box 1471

Montgomery, Alabama

36102-1472

Crash reports requested by mail will cost $15 per copy.

What Information Does the Report Contain?

When you order a car accident from the ALEA, you can expect it to contain the following information:

  • The time, date, and location of the crash
  • Insurance contact information for each driver
  • Names of any eyewitnesses or passengers
  • Make and model of each involved vehicle
  • Eyewitness statements
  • A full description of any injuries
  • A summary of the crash
  • Weather conditions
  • Pictures of vehicle damage and the accident scene
  • Whether a traffic citation was issued to any of the parties by a law enforcement officer

Why Is Your Car Accident Report Important?

A car crash report can be helpful in your Alabama car accident claim since it serves as an official account of what happened. You can then use the report to file a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance company. The crash report may have important details that help prove the other driver’s fault, making it harder for the at-fault driver’s insurance company to deny liability.
